005 | OVERZICHT WERKEN 2 JAAR SCHILDEREN ...

In afwachting van het heropstarten van de schilderactiviteiten geef ik hier nog een overzicht van de werkstukken die ik gemaakt heb tijdens het eerste en het tweede jaar aan de academie. Click on the first collage to see my works of the first year at the academy, and click on the second collage to see the paintings I’ve made last school year, my second year painting at the ‘Academy of Fine Arts’ in castle ‘Meylandt’. 004 | ONTDEKKING VAN DE 'VERBEKE FOUNDATION' ... KUNST IN BEWEGING ...

Vandaag is het juist 71 dagen geleden sinds ik mijn laatste werk schilderde. Sindsdien was het allemaal een beetje kommer en kwel. Een abominabele fysieke conditie , gebeurtenissen zoals de brand en de gasontploffing, om nog maar niet te spreken van de naweeën met verzekeringen, experts, ... , de onbruikbaarheid van mijn schilderatelier, ... De laatste tijd duikt in mijn gedachten regelmatig een citaat op van Kahlil Gibran :"Wij leven allen om schoonheid te ontdekken, al het andere is een vorm van wachten." En vooral dat laatste woord ... wachten ... dat vertolkt vaak bovendrijvende gevoelens van nu eens hoopvolle verwachtingen, en dan weer van nutteloosheid en verloren tijd. En dan gebeurt het wel eens dat ik zelfs overdag voor de televisie zit te zappen, zoekend naar wat verstrooiing of iets boeiends. Zo belandde ik een tijdje geleden op Nederland 2 bij het programma 'Avro Kunstuur' dat een bezoek bracht aan de 'Verbeke Foundation' in Kemzeke bij Sint-Niklaas. En ik zat voor de rest van de uitzending aan het scherm gekluisterd ... boeiend zeg ... Ik had er nooit van gehoord ... en op maar een anderhalf uurtje rijden vind je dit 'kunst(pret)park' ... fantastisch ... Voor de vakantie voorbij is ga ik proberen daar een bezoek te brengen, een daguitstap van te maken, als Crohn en de anderen het mij toestaan ...

For my English-speaking friends (if not correct, I hope my English is communicative) 004-DISCOVERY OF THE ‘VERBEKE FOUNDATION’ … ART IN MOTION … Today it has been 71 days ago since I’ve painted my last work. Ever since it was all trouble and affliction : an appalling form, the fire and the explosion, the aftereffects with insurances, agents, assessors, contractors, … , the unusable studio, … Regularly a quotation by Kahlil Gibran comes to the surface in my mind :”We live only to discover beauty. All else is a form of waiting”. And specially the last word of that quote … waiting … it often expresses feelings of occasionally hopeful expectations, or otherwise useless time. An sometimes, even by day, I’m watching television, zapping and searching for some entertainment or some fascinating stuff. And so I discovered on Dutch television ‘Avro Arthour’, visiting the ‘Verbeke Foundation’ in Kemzeke, near to Sint-Niklaas, Belgium. And I was glued to the screen … holding my attention … I will try to visit this domain before holydays are over, of course with the permission of ‘Crohn an my other companions’. The Verbeke Foundation, founded by art collectors Geert and Carla Verbeke-Lens, is a private art site which first opened doors to the general public on June 1st of 2007.. As a ‘refuge of arts’ the domain offers chances to young / less renowned artists and holds an impressive collection of modern and contemporary art. Culture, nature and ecology go hand in hand in the Verbeke Foundation. With 12 hectares (29.7 acres) of scenic area and 20,000 m² (4,9 acres) covered spaces, the Foundation is one of the largest private initiatives for contemporary art throughout Europe. The warehouses of the former Verbeke transport agency were transformed into unique exposition halls. One of the buildings was furnished to exhibit Verbeke’s extraordinary collection of collages and assemblages. The Verbeke Foundation is subject to a continuous growth process. Artists have the ability to reside, larger and smaller exhibitions relieve each other… the Verbeke Foundation resembles a living organism and so looks different one day to another. “Our exhibition space does not aim to be an oasis. Our presentation is unfinished, in motion, unpolished, contradictory, untidy, complex, inharmonious, living and unmonumental, like the world outside of the museum walls. You will find no flamboyant sensational buildings here, but rather, a refreshing, unpretentious place to look at art and a subtle criticism of the art world”. Geert Verbeke

De Verbeke Foundation is een private kunstsite die geopend werd op 1 juni 2007 door kunstverzamelaars Geert en Carla Verbeke Lens. Cultuur, natuur en ecologie komen er samen. De ruimte herbergt een indrukwekkende verzameling van moderne en hedendaagse kunst en biedt als ‘kunstenvrijplaats’ ook kansen aan jonge kunstenaars. Met zijn 12 hectare natuurgebied en zijn 20.000m² overdekte ruimten is de Verbeke Foundation één van de grootste privé-initiatieven voor hedendaagse kunst in Europa. De loodsen van het vroegere transportbedrijf van Geert Verbeke werden omgebouwd tot unieke expositieruimtes. Eén van de gebouwen werd ingericht om de uitzonderlijke verzameling collages en assemblages tentoon te stellen. De Verbeke Foundation is een aanhoudend groeiproces. Kunstenaars kunnen er in residentie, verblijven, grotere en kleinere tentoonstellingen wisselen elkaar af…, waardoor de Foundation, zoals een ademend organisme, er elke dag anders uitziet. "Onze tentoonstellingsruimte wil geen oase zijn. Onze presentatie is onaf, in beweging, ongepolijst, contradictorisch, slordig, complex, onharmonieus, levend en onmonumentaal, zoals de wereld buiten de museummuren.” Geert Verbeke
